A Flavor for Everyone: Fort Wayne’s Food Trucks
If there’s one thing Fort Wayne knows, it’s food. Throughout the city, you can find a large variety of cuisine ranging from succulent sushi all the way to classic American burgers — it’s all about the diversity. So, when it comes to Fort Wayne’s food trucks why would it be any different? With all that variety, you’ll be set for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and even dessert. A few years ago, there wasn’t a food truck to be seen. But today, you can find a gang of food trucks rolling through the city, filling the air with savory smells that make the mouths of Fort Wayne water. There are over 10 different food trucks cooking up a delicious array of foods that makes deciding what you want for dinner a pretty tough choice.
Bravas serves some of the best hot dogs and sausages you’ll find. And with a side of patatas bravas, you’ll be dreaming of Spain for the rest of the day. Getaway Grill & Sol Kitchen bring that spicy Mexican food that we all love, with their shrimp tacos and homemade guacamole. Affiné goes the extra mile with their locally sourced ingredients and keeps you coming back for more with their fish, duck, and chicken Banh mi.
Spicers food truck uses seasonal ingredients to create unique, daily specials that keep you on your toes waiting to see what they’re cooking up. Jimmy Ray’s Bar-B-Que is exactly what it sounds like — tasty, finger-licking barbecue. Pizza Bomba makes homemade pizza that looks like Christmas morning decorated with fresh basil, tomatoes, and mozzarella. With their Vietnamese-inspired lemongrass chicken, crispy tofu, and caramelized pork, it's no wonder Fort Wayne's newest food truck is called Vietnummy. Ragin’ Cajun serves up some of the finest, most authentic Cajun jambalaya you’ll find north of New Orleans.
Last, but not least, we have our dessert food trucks — because what meal is complete without some savory treat? Whip and Chill serves ice cream, Wise Guys Ice makes summer complete with their authentic Italian Ice and Kona Ice will keep you cool with their shaved ice.
John Maxwell, owner and chef of the Ragin' Cajun, is also one of the co-founders of the Food Truck Association here in Fort Wayne. The Food Truck Association is a nonprofit organization that promotes the food truck culture in cities across the country. The Food Truck Association also helps bring them all together, for example, instead of having to deal with city or health department issues as individuals, they are able to deal with them as a group. Maxwell can't say enough about how great the Food Truck atmosphere is in Fort Wayne, and how everyone helps one another out.
“It’s not as individually competitive as you might think,” Maxwell stated, “each food truck specializes in its own, unique food so there’s really no competition — we are all always looking out for one another.”
